Unscrambling words gets easier when you know what to look for. Instead of staring at all the letters at once, break them into smaller patterns.

Start With Short Words

Look for 2-letter and 3-letter words first. Short words can help you see the letters more clearly and often lead to longer words.

Look for Common Letter Combinations

Many English words use common letter pairs and groups, such as:

TH
CH
SH
ST
TR
IN
ER
ED
ING

If your scrambled letters contain these combinations, try grouping them together.

Separate Vowels and Consonants

Write the vowels in one group and the consonants in another. Then try combining them in different ways.

For example, with the letters LISTEN:

Vowels: I, E
Consonants: L, S, T, N

From there, you may notice words like LISTEN, SILENT, ENLIST, INLETS, and TINSEL.

Use a Word Unscrambler

A word unscrambler can help you find words quickly when you are stuck. Enter your letters, click Unscramble, and review the possible words.

Practice With Different Letter Sets

The more you practice, the faster you will recognize word patterns. Try using different letters and challenge yourself to find the longest words first.
